It’s normal to feel nervous about surgery, but you can rest assured knowing you’re under the care of world-renowned experts who use the most advanced techniques available. At the Center for Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery, Dr. Prebil and his team use the da Vinci surgical system, one of the first robot-assisted systems to gain FDA clearance.
This sophisticated technology enables your CMIRS surgeon to perform complex operations, including gallbladder surgery, through one or more very small incisions. Smaller incisions and less damage to healthy tissue mean a faster, easier recovery for you.
How does the da Vinci surgical system work?
Your CMIRS surgeon is in complete control of the da Vinci system at all times. They operate from a separate, ergonomically designed console while you lay on the surgery table beneath four interactive robotic arms that carry out your surgeon’s commands.
Using state-of-the-art technology, the da Vinci system translates your surgeon’s hand movements into precise actions. A full range of proprietary EndoWrist® surgical instruments maneuver with greater control and a more extensive range of motion than the human wrist is capable of.
The da Vinci surgical system includes a camera that displays a high definition 3D image of the inside of your body for your surgeon to view from the console. The robotic arms operate around fixed parameters to reduce the risk of damaging nearby healthy tissue. Repeated safety checks prevent the instruments and robotic arms from moving on their own.
What are the benefits of da Vinci surgery?
The da Vinci system provides your surgeon with enhanced vision, control, and dexterity. This allows the team at CMIRS to perform advanced procedures with greater precision than ever before. As a result, you experience the following benefits:
- Less pain and scarring
- Faster recovery time
- Reduced risk of complications
Dr. Prebil and his team are nationally recognized experts and educators in the field of minimally invasive robotic surgery. They perform various procedures with the da Vinci system, including appendectomies, intestinal surgery, and hernia repair.
